Verizon Outage Has Online Gamblers Scurrying To Home Computers

In the past couple of months, online gamblers have been disrupted from their favorite hobby when they were unable to access their bank accounts online. Today, some of those same gamblers went scurrying to their home computers.

Verizon Outage Hits NYC

Reports are in that Verizon subscribers living in Manhattan might be experiencing some landline issues due to recent damage on a Verizon digital cross connect box thanks to thunderstorms in the area.

The funny thing is that while the Verizon Wireless service has not been affected by the outage, AT&T, who is Verizon Wireless’ biggest competitor which also uses Verizon’s landline network to connect some of its cell sites in New York City, has been affected by the outage. Nothing tragic happened during the outage, or at least that has been reported, but whenever I hear about communication breakdowns of any kind, I always wonder how it affects parents and children. On Sept. 11, 2001, I was living in New York City and both of my parents and my brother-in-law were also in Manhattan that day. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, we couldn’t get in touch with each other because all phones — land and cell lines — were down. Verizon experiencing network problems in Virginia [UPDATED]

It's always a bad day for us phone-obsessed folk when our carrier of choice experiences a data outage, but data and voice? That's rough, but that's exactly what appears to be happening to Verizon customers in Virginia. Verizon has confirmed that there is indeed an outage, although they're not quite sure what's causing the problem.
